Comprehension Passages and Composition Writing (Primary 3 and 4)

 

 

 

 

 





Learning Objectives

  • To improve students’ reading comprehension by exposing them to different types of Chinese compositions and equipping them with composition writing techniques.
  • To heighten students’ confidence and ability in composition writing. Students get to practice writing 200-400 words long compositions in 50 minutes.

Programme Outline

Part I: Language Revision

  • Vocabulary Bank: accumulate words and phrases
  • Writing Structure: introduction, body and conclusion
  • Composition Practice

Part II: Composition

Oral Composition:

  • Speaking and writing are carried out simultaneously
  • Speak out before writing: students’ response and feedback are evaluated
  • Construct and organise ideas verbally before committing to writing

Writing Composition:

  • Picture-based essay (Pri 3 & Pri 4)
  • Topic-based essay (Pri 4)

Part III: Reading Comprehension

  • Read selected passages and utilised choice of vocabulary words to aid students’ understanding
  • Class Assignment:
    - Chose/Fill in the blanks: Reading comprehension
    - Question & Answer: Reading comprehension II
    - Fill in the essential points
  • Equip students with basic techniques for effective reading
