Enjoy Easy Learning with Preschool Mandarin Sharing Session Successfully Completed

Enjoy Easy Learning with Preschool Mandarin Sharing Session, held at Confucius Institute, NTU on 14 January 2012, was successfully completed.

Preschool education is arguably the most important phase in a child’s learning journey. Besides selecting the appropriate preschool curriculum, a conducive learning environment is definitely a paramount factor. This sharing session aims to introduce parents to the course materials utilised in our Preschool Top Chinese Enrichment Programme and to familiarise parents with the pedagogies undertaken by our teachers. We hope that through this sharing session, parents can reinforce teachings in school by initiating suitable parent-child bonding activities at home. This way, the child will not only be motivated to learn the Chinese language well, their language abilities will also be greatly enhanced.

Course curriculum is designed and adapted after practical classroom sessions with preschoolers. Our speaker, Ms Gao Dan, a preschool educator, shares her own teaching experiences about early childhood characteristics on stimulating interest and confidence in the learning of Chinese language, nurturing a child’s ability to learn and solve problems independently and preparing the child adequately for primary school education.

Ms Gao Dan did a brief analysis of the teaching materials and demonstrated to parents on how to increase the activities in the textbooks by broadening the contents and to guide their children to Chinese language and reading. She emphasized on the importance of reading habits from young and also pointed out the various habits of parents that may imperceptibly influence children. Thus, she hoped that parents can put themselves in children’s perspectives with more parent-child interaction.

Parents’ feedbacks were positive and they hope that there will be more such sharing sessions in future.
