Introduction

This course is designed for the following:

  • Provide students valuable insights on the art of appreciating Chinese calligraphic art
  • Expose to distinctive painting styles through appreciating masterpieces by famous Chinese calligraphers spanning different historical periods
  • Gain a better understanding of the Chinese culture as well as recognize the wisdom behind a calligrapher’s brush

Course Synopsis

  • Basic Theory of Appreciating Masterpieces
  • Comprehensive Analysis of Masterpieces across different historical periods
  • Enhancement of Aesthetic Skills

Instructor: Mr Gu Jian Ping

  • A scholar, a calligrapher and an expert on writing systems
  • Produced 30 literary works in Shanghai, Taiwan and Singapore
  • Written 5 major Chinese dictionaries single-handedly
  • Published 10 over academic thesis, 2 of which have won awards
  • Calligraphy works exhibited in more than 10 countries
  • Elected by China’s 《人民日报》as an outstanding representative of Chinese arts
  • Chosen as China’s 《瞭望》special issue magazine as “中华脊梁——共和国文化艺术家风采”
  • A speaker for several main events like “汉字学堂”、“书画天地”and “说东道西谈文化”at Mediacorp Singapore
